Cite While You Write Preferences

Preferences allow you to enable or disable Instant Formatting, modify the setting to show Microsoft® Word® field codes, customize the shortcut keys, and select a default target application when using EndNote desktop and EndNote Web.

To customize shortcut keys:

  1. If the EndNote Web toolbar is viewable, click the Preferences button in the EndNote Web toolbar. Or from the Tools menu select EndNote Web, then Cite While You Write Preferences. Word 2007: On the EndNote tab, in the Tools group, select Preferences.
  2. Click the Keyboard tab in the Preferences dialog.
  3. To remove a shortcut key assignment, click the Remove button.
  4. To assign a new shortcut key, enter the keys in the field below "Press new shortcut key" field, then click the Assign button.
  5. To reset to the default settings, click the Reset All button.
  6. Click the OK button to save your changes.

To switch between EndNote and EndNote Web Cite While You Write:

  1. Click the Preferences button in the EndNote Web toolbar. Or from the Tools menu select EndNote Web, then Cite While You Write Preferences. Word 2007: On the EndNote tab, in the Tools group, select Preferences.
  2. Click the Application tab in the Preferences dialog.
  3. Select EndNote or EndNote Web.
  4. If you select EndNote Web, confirm the URL field and complete the username and password fields.
