Attaching a Figure to a Reference

1. If you are viewing a list of references, click the figure attachment button to open the Figure Attachments window. Then click Attach Figure.

If you are viewing the full reference in the View Reference window, click Attach Figure.

2. In the Upload Figure Attachment window, click Browse to find the file containing the figure you want to upload. When you have selected the file, click Upload.

Note: If a figure is no longer attached to a reference, this dialog will prompt you to reattach the figure.

Managing Figure Attachments

• Select Manage Attachments under the Organize tab to display a list of file and figure attachments.
• Click the figure attachment button to open the Figure Attachment window where you can view the file name of the figure attached to the reference.

You can delete a figure attachment from either window. Note: If you delete a figure attachment from a reference that you transferred from EndNote X5, you must also delete the attachment from EndNote X5. Otherwise, the attachment will reappear the next time you perform a transfer..

Figure Attachment Limits

• If you subscribe to EndNote X5, you may attach one figure to a reference.
• If you subscribe to EndNote Web and you have EndNote X2 - X4, you may view the name of the file attached to references that you transferred from EndNote to EndNote Web. However, you cannot open the file or attach new figures in EndNote Web.
• There is no restriction to the size of a figure attached to a reference. However, the total amount of space allotted to file attachments is 1GB.
• You may transfer file attachments between EndNote X5 and EndNote Web..

Figure Attachment Buttons

Figure attachment. This icon indicates that a figure is attached to the reference.

Figure attachment. This icon indicates that no figure is attached to the reference.

Attachment File Types

EndNote Web supports the following file formats for figure attachments:

• Windows Bitmap - BMP
• Graphics Interchange Format - GIF
• JPEG File Interchange Format - JPEG
• Portable Network Graphics - PNG
• Tag Image File Format - TIF

Note

In addition to attaching figures, you can attach other types of files to references.
